Gallatin City Guide Article

Tucked into a cozy plot on Nichols Lane is 12 Corners Nursery, owned by Clay Humphrys and his wife, Courtney. 12 Corners Nursery has been in business since 1989, though Clay and his wife didn't assume ownership until 2014. "I started working here when I was a junior in high school," Clay remembered. "I had no idea at the time that I would eventually own this place." Since buying the business in 2014, Clay and Courtney have focused on expanding their niche of native plants and hard-to-find items, growing many of the items they sell from seed in their on-site greenhouse. The nursery grows and sells annuals, perennials, vegetables, hanging baskets, and more, supplementing items not grown in-house (like tropical plants) from a well-curated list of suppliers. What does Clay find most rewarding about running a business in Gallatin? Knowing his customers by name tops the list. "When you're young, all you want to do is to get away from your hometown," he admitted. "When you get a little older, you soon realize that your hometown is an important part of you, and there's really no place like it."
